Hood and Rachel travel to Daytona Beach, Florida where two young men appear to have died after a wild night of partying. During their autopsies, their hearts spontaneously start beating again, though one dies before they're able to close his chest cavity. Rachel interviews Lenny, the survivor when he recovers, and learns that aside from non-stop partying, he and his friend had sex with the same woman. Suspecting the woman wasn't a willing participant, Rachel tracks her down to get a statement, only to find she's suffering from the same fate. The apparently sexually transmitted disease takes an even darker turn when Lenny's body starts being ravaged by an aggressive form of necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria). Hood determines that though the female victim's heart appears to have stopped beating, it is just imperceptably slow: the infection has caused a state of suspended animation that protects the victims from developing the necrotizing fasciitis. Local doctors work to keep the bodies in the state of suspended animation, Hood seeks out the source of the bacteria and Rachel works to stop the spread by identifying other victims of the boys and their friends' sexual exploits. Hood gene maps the bacteria to find its source who turns out to be a vengeful scientist whose daughter was raped by this group of boys.
