This episode picks up where the season twelve finale ended: Russell's granddaughter Kaitlyn has been kidnapped by someone working for incarcerated Jeffrey McKeen, Finlay is being tailed by a dirty detective, and Morgan's father Ecklie has been shot. Distraught, Russell wants nothing more than to confront McKeen in prison, but he and Sara opt to work the crime scene where she was taken instead, hoping it will lead them to Kaitlyn. Finlay lets dirty Detective Michael Crenshaw lead her to a sketchy club, where he gets the jump on her and locks her in a room with Kaitlyn and Lieutenant Paul Kimball, another one of the corrupt cops on McKeen's payroll. Finlay and Kaitlyn then get separated, just before the CSIs come and free Finlay. The CSIs then follow all of the evidence they can dig up and eventually locate Kaitlyn, who is stilll being held captive by Kimball at a remote desert home. Brass disarms Kimball, and Russell and his family are then reunited with Kaitlyn.
