Cougar Town Episode 2.20 Free Falling

Ever notice how a lot of Cougar Town episode titles are also the names of Tom Petty songs? This one is quite fitting, as Travis is still free fallin' after getting dumped. He actually shows signs of bouncing back when he tells Jules and Bobby that he's heading back to college now that spring break is over. Actually, it's been over for awhile. Trav just never went back because he dropped out.

Jules threatens to throw Travis out unless he goes back to school. Tough love isn't really her thing, so she crumbles fast. Things get worse when Trav cons his mom into a fun beach day, just like the ones they used to have when they skipped family funerals.

Jules and Travis end a great day with an Emilio Estevez movie marathon. This is Jules's first-ever Estevez-Festivez! Come morning, Travis is gone and Jules knows she's just been played. Jules finally gets her tough love mojo going. Either Travis goes back to college or he must go it alone.

A trio of evil-looking kids has been chalking up the street. You've heard of Children of the Corn? These kids are the Children of the Cul-De-Sac. Odd neighbor Tom warns Grayson and Ellie that they shouldn't mess with chalk children. They don't forgive and they never forget. That's why after their drawings are hosed away, new ones emerge with renditions of Grayson on fire and Ellie with her head chopped off. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Tom hosed off the chalk drawings because enjoyed working as a team with Ellie and the G-man. That's all well and good, but it won't stop the oncoming attack of the chalk children. Fortunately, the three scary adults stare down the three scary kids. It's total victory being able to frighten children, so Ellie and Grayson celebrate with some coffee. They even invite Tom to join them. Nice.

Smith's dad, Roger, wants to buy the rights to Penny Can. He even signed Lou Diamond Phillips to be the spokesperson. As much as Bobby loves the La Bamba legend, he doesn't like the changes being made to Penny Can. Partners Andy and Laurie don't want to blow the $40,000 plus royalties they'll get in the deal, so Bobby reluctantly agrees to sell out.

The good news is that the inside of every new flashing, rolling Penny Can will have the words "Invented by Bobby Cobb." Andy hopes a big check will help cushion the blow that Penny Can has been swallowed up by big business. Hey, it'll get Bobby off his boat and into an apartment. As for Jules, she's thrilled when she sees Travis has moved out. That means he went back to college, right? Wrong. Trav has just moved in to Bobby's boat. Bummer.
