Cougar Town Episode 1.18 Turn This Car Around

Jules Cobb has a habit of multitasking as she drives. She likes to talk on her cell, apply lipstick using the rearview mirror and shoot her finger-guns at other drivers. Unfortunately, it's hard to veer while using your knees to steer. Jules crashes through a fence sending her car to the bottom of prospective client's swimming pool. She's okay, but her real estate files are a little soggy.

Ellie has a theory that after a certain point people can't change. Jules intends to prove her wrong. After all, she still dreams of opening an antique store in Paris. It could happen. But Jules opts to make a change a little closer to home first. She's giving up wine for a month. That's going to be hard. Wine plays a part in some of her best memories. Like that time the gang downed a few bottles because it was Monday. Good times.

While on the wine wagon, Jules finds herself with gobs of energy. She's calling her friends at six in the morning, painting their mailboxes and learning the Mandarin language. The gang prefers the old Jules. They stage an intervention to get her drinking again. Ellie says, "Nothing could ever make me stop loving you except you not drinking. 12 steps, smelve-steps. Alcohol makes people fun!"

Jules is appalled by the attitude of her friends and asks them all to leave. When Ellie and Laurie come by the next day to apologize, Jules is sporting a purple tongue. Busted! She's drinking wine again. It seems that Ellie was right. Jules can't change, not even a little bit. Guess all those dreams she had won't be coming true.

While out on a drive with Ellie, Jules gets a call from a client. She pulls over because the accident made her realize that talking on the phone while driving is crazy dangerous. She decided to make a...wait for it...change! Yes, it turns out that Jules Cobb can change! Sure hope she doesn't give up the finger-guns though.

Sara (guest star Sheryl Crow) pops into Grayson's bar to sell him some wine. The brand she's selling is called Hurpes. It's French, so it's not pronounced as it looks. Sara offers to throw in an extra case if Grayson takes her out to dinner. Ellie breaks the news that the G-man likes his ladies a little younger. Undaunted, Sara says, "I'm as old as two 20-year-olds so maybe it'll feel like a menage-a-trois." That's French, too.

Grayson does end up going on a date with Sara. It's a bit awkward because she likes to have real conversations. He's used to asking his dates compelling questions like, "What's your favorite number?" Sara's is three. Grayson likes five. Needless to say, the date does not go well. But it gets Grayson thinking that maybe he's tired of having meaningless sex with 20-something airheads. Say it ain't so!

Grayson is surprised to learn that Sara found him extremely boring. She feels that if you can't be real with someone, then you're just not that interesting. This has Grayson's head spinning. He chases Sara into the parking lot and blurts out some personal secrets. Before he knows what's happening, Sara is leaning in to kiss him. As far as she's concerned, Grayson just got a lot more interesting.

Bobby gets himself a horse. Okay, it's not a horse. It's a dog that's as big as a horse. He named him Travis because he names all his favorite things Travis. His son is oddly touched. Bobby seems to be spending all his time with canine Trav. He even built a cool counterbalance elevator to lift the big doggie onto his boat. This has Andy a bit jealous. He wants the job of being man's best friend when it comes to Bobby.

In an attempt to get his two best buds to get along, Bobby asks Andy to take Travis for a walk. It turns out to be more like a ride, as Travis yanks Andy all over town. The road trip ends when Travis decides to take a seat on Andy's head. Round one of the battle for Bobby goes to the mammoth mutt. But don't count Andy out just yet. After all, every dog has his day.
