Main Cast

On a night when everyone has plans, Jules calls up a mortgage broker who had asked her out on a date. The guy's old enough to be her dad, but Jules doesn't like being alone. Unfortunately, Grayson catches her on a date with Father Time. He shows up the next day singing a song mocking Jules' inability to be without others. When Jules says the painted roses on his little guitar look pretty girly, Grayson strums out another impromptu tune. It's called Confident in my Sexuality and it's pretty darn catchy.

Grayson bets Jules that she can't spend the entire day by herself. That'll be hard to do as Bobby and Travis have just arrived for Barbecue Saturday (Bobby just made that up). Nevertheless, Jules takes the bet and boots the boys from her home. She makes the most of her alone time by sorting coins, sampling perfumes and altering a dress. This takes up about 22 minutes of the day. So she decides to hit the pool. Unfortunately, an alligator has wandered into her yard looking to join her for a swim...or for lunch.

Jules recruits Andy to shoo away the trespassing reptile. He does (kinda) and Jules thanks him with a big tin of popcorn-cheddar flavor! Andy is grateful for her gratitude, as he's been seeking a little appreciation from Ellie for some time now.

Laurie's faux boyfriend Dale invites her to his real girlfriend's birthday party. It's not weird. He's going to break up with her as soon as he gets his CD's back. Jules must pick up Laurie after she hooks up with Dale and he ditches her. We're thinking Laurie would be better off with young Travis, who is ultimately the one to convince her that she deserves better. You know, when she's 34, Travis will be 25 and this is Cougar Town.

Jules wants to win her bet with Grayson, but she also wants Barbecue Saturday. She lures Bobby and Travis back home. Andy stops over to say that Ellie won't be joining them. This is just as Grayson comes strumming by to collect his 20 bucks. Jules pays up and admits that she likes to be around people. She asks Grayson to join them. He declines. He has that smug, loner thing happening.

Jules sends Bobby and Andy over to drag Grayson back to the party. Again, he declines. He's watching Rudy on TV. It may be the best guy movie of all-time. Guess that's why Bobby and Andy join him. The only way Jules can lure them back is by telling them they can watch The Shawshank Redemption at her place with the full Shawshank experience. This involves Andy crawling through a makeshift tunnel and ripping off his shirt as Jules showers him with a hose. It's quite stirring. Andy only wishes Ellie could have seen it.

Bobby knows that Ellie hasn't been a fan of his since the divorce. So it's no shocker that she's less than receptive to his request that she show Andy a little appreciation. Still, Ellie can't help but be a little moved by how much Bobby truly cares about her husband. She eventually does make it over to the barbecue and thanks Andy for putting up with her.

Grayson also makes an appearance for Barbecue Saturday. He comes bearing a six pack and some ketchup. It's all he had in his fridge. It doesn't matter. Whether he likes it or not, Jules tells Grayson that he's one of them now. And with this group, the only thing you ever need to bring to a party is yourself.
