Sammy Hagar: 'Aerosmith Wanted Me to Replace Steven Tyler'
Music

Rock veteran Sammy Hagar has revealed he was offered the chance to replace Steven Tyler as the frontman of Aerosmith, but snubbed the opportunity because it would have been a 'difficult' transition.

AceShowbiz - The former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar claims he has been approached over the years to join a string of top bands, and was in the running to front Slash supergroup Velvet Revolver in 2008.

He tells Forbes magazine, "I was asked at one time to be in Motley Crue. I was asked at one time to be in Pantera by their managers. I was asked to be in Velvet Revolver when Scott Weiland quit."

Hagar even alleges he was considered as a possible replacement for Steven Tyler when he fell out with his Aerosmith bandmates in late 2009 - but the job was just not for him.

He says, "I was asked to be in Aerosmith and I said no. Certain bands and certain frontman singers are more difficult to replace than others. Steven Tyler and that band have stayed together for 40 years and you don't to walk into something like that."

And Hagar suggests he would not have done Tyler's distinctive vocals justice by taking a swipe at David Lee Roth - the man he replaced in Van Halen.

He adds, "It was easy because Dave wasn't a great singer."
