AceShowbiz - Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is set to wed his model girlfriend Irina Shayk, according to reports. The sports stud is said to have jetted all the way from Spain to New York to propose to the Russian beauty on Valentine's Day.
According to Britain's News of the World, he handed the stunner a red rose before getting down on bended knee to ask for her hand in marriage. A family friend tells the newspaper, "We are very happy for them."
Shayk, who recently landed the honor of gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated's 2011 Swimsuit Issue, met Ronaldo last year after modeling together for the Armani Exchange campaigns. The friend said Ronaldo's mum Dolores wants the couple to marry in the footballer's home town of Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. "She wants a very traditional, religious ceremony, but Cristiano and Irina will decide the venue."
