AceShowbiz - Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham have officially completed production on their new action thriller Viva La Madness, which was announced in October 2025 and is now in post-production. The film reunites the longtime collaborators for a project they have been eager to make for over ten years.
Viva La Madness is based on the 2011 novel by J.J. Connolly, the sequel to the book that inspired the 2000 crime thriller Layer Cake. While Layer Cake remains a standalone film starring Daniel Craig, this new movie adapts Connolly’s follow-up novel with Ritchie directing and Statham leading the cast. The story promises a blend of action, intrigue, and humor that matches the tone of the source material. The ensemble includes Jason Isaacs, Ben Foster, Vinnie Jones, Camila Mendes, Jonny Lee Miller, Babs Olusanmokun, and Rauw Alejandro, who is making one of his first feature film appearances.
Jason Statham first gained attention under Ritchie’s direction playing Bacon in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), marking the start of a nearly 30-year collaboration between the two. The duo also worked together on the well-regarded Snatch (2000) and reunited for the 2021 heist thriller Wrath of Man. Their most recent joint effort before Viva La Madness was Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which featured a strong cast but underperformed at the box office.
Produced by Punch Palace Productions and Lumina Studios, Viva La Madness will be distributed in the U.S. by Black Bear and internationally by Amazon MGM Studios. With production complete and post-production underway, the film is positioned to capitalize on the enduring creative partnership between Ritchie and Statham, delivering a fresh take on the crime thriller genre fans have followed since the late 1990s.
