Woods as the iconic members of the legendary R&B/pop group TLC. Conway will take on the role of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Milan portrays Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Woods embodies Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. This highly anticipated musical is set to debut this summer at Arena Stage’s Kreeger Theater in Washington, D.C., with performances running from June 12 through August 9.
The musical’s launch precedes the upcoming It's Iconic Tour, which will feature TLC alongside Salt-N-Pepa, with special guest En Vogue. The tour is scheduled to kick off on August 15 in Franklin, Tennessee, continuing the celebration of TLC’s enduring influence on music and culture.
CrazySexyCool - The TLC Musical is based on the music recorded and performed by the four-time Grammy Award-winning group, including their signature Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits such as "No Scrubs," "Creep," "Waterfalls," and "Unpretty." The show is written and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, known for his work on One Love: The Bob Marley Musical. The production boasts an experienced creative team with choreographer Chloe O. Davis, Tony Award-nominated music supervisor David Holcenberg, and music director Jaret Landon.
Hana S. Sharif, artistic director of Arena Stage, praised the musical’s boldness, stating, "CrazySexyCool is as bold, fearless and unapologetic as TLC themselves. It holds space for the music we love and the reality that lies behind it, making room for both the joy of their success and the complexity of everything that came with it."
The cast members bring impressive Broadway experience to their roles. Holli' Gabrielle Conway previously appeared in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Jade Milan performed in Hell's Kitchen, and Stoney B. Woods acted in The Book of Mormon. The trio expressed their enthusiasm for portraying the trailblazing group, highlighting the lasting impact of TLC’s music across generations.
In a joint statement, the actresses shared, "One of the most meaningful parts of this process is showing how TLC's impact has lasted for generations. Every song brings you back to a moment in your life. Stepping into that nostalgia, while furthering TLC's legacy of resilience, creativity and sisterhood has been one of the coolest and most rewarding parts of telling this story. The chemistry and trust between us have become a huge part of what makes this show feel special."
Kwame Kwei-Armah also expressed his excitement about the production, saying, "TLC's music was the soundtrack to a very meaningful part of my life. The cast we have assembled is fire, and the creative team is out of this world. I haven't been this excited in a long time."
The musical promises to capture the spirit and story behind the groundbreaking group, blending their hit songs with a narrative that reflects both their artistic achievements and personal challenges.
