AceShowbiz - Ledisi is set to take on her first principal role on Broadway this fall, joining the cast of the eagerly awaited new musical WANTED, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

Though the Grammy-winning R&B singer is familiar with Broadway stages—having appeared in productions such as Caroline, or Change and Hair—this marks her biggest theater role to date. Beyond Broadway, Ledisi’s career spans film and music, including roles in Selma and Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story, alongside contributions to the soundtrack for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

WANTED tells the compelling "mostly true story" of twin sisters Mary and Martha Clarke, Black women who passed as white and became infamous outlaws in post-emancipation Texas. In the musical, Ledisi will portray Tallulah, the family matriarch. She joins Solea Pfeiffer, known for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous, as Mary, and Liisi LaFontaine as Martha.

Expressing her excitement, Ledisi shared, "I am thrilled to join the cast of WANTED. My first Broadway principal role, and I still can't believe it. I love being a recording artist, and that will never change. Theater has always been a part of my vision as a storyteller. This isn't a pivot... It's another expansion of me."

The musical features a book and lyrics by Broadway newcomer Angelica Chéri, who is a direct descendant of the Clarke sisters, with music composed by Ross Baum. The production is directed by Tony-nominee Stevie Walker-Webb (Ain't No Mo') and choreographed by Chelsey Arce. Originally titled Gun & Powder, WANTED began its journey in 2020 at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, before an acclaimed off-Broadway run at New Jersey’s Papermill Playhouse in 2024.

The Papermill production earned a New York Times "critic’s pick," with reviewers praising Baum’s "wide-ranging, powerhouse score," the show's engaging revenge-fantasy storyline, and its strong, central roles for Black women.

WANTED is scheduled to open on Broadway on November 8, 2024, with previews starting October 15. Ahead of the premiere, audiences can listen to "Inheritance," a song from the musical, performed at a special one-night concert at Artist House in New York.

This new musical promises to shine a spotlight on a remarkable piece of history through a dynamic and powerful theatrical experience, with Ledisi stepping confidently into her first starring Broadway role.
