AceShowbiz - Fourth Wing is set to become a new fantasy series on Prime Video, adapting the popular Empyrean romantasy novels by Rebecca Yarros. This project marks a significant addition to Amazon's growing fantasy lineup, with the streamer officially greenlighting the show after approximately two and a half years of development.
The series draws its name from the first book in Yarros' widely praised series, which debuted in 2023 under Entangled Publishing. Fourth Wing quickly became a bestseller, capturing a devoted fan base and receiving enthusiastic reviews. Its popularity was notably amplified through social media platforms such as TikTok’s BookTok community. The subsequent books in the planned five-part series, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm, also achieved instant bestseller status.
The storyline centers on Violet Sorrengail, whose aspirations for a peaceful life are shattered when her mother, a military general, compels her to enroll in the grueling Basgiath War College. There, Violet competes alongside hundreds of candidates to become a dragon rider, a coveted and perilous role within this fantasy world.
Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to the series in 2023 and is producing it in collaboration with Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society, which maintains an overall deal with the studio. Initially, Moira Walley-Beckett, known for her work on Breaking Bad and Anne With an E, was appointed showrunner but departed from the project in 2024. She was succeeded by Meredith Averill, co-creator of Locke & Key, who took over as showrunner in September 2025.
Averill will serve as executive producer alongside Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society; Yarros herself; Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films; as well as Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark of Premeditated, a sister company to Entangled Publishing. Stefano Agosto, executive vice president of television at Outlier Society, is also a co-executive producer on the series.
This collaboration brings together a powerful team of producers and creatives, underscoring Prime Video’s commitment to expanding its fantasy content through high-profile adaptations. Fans of the books and fantasy enthusiasts alike can anticipate a richly crafted television experience that remains faithful to the source material’s vibrant world and complex characters.
With the official greenlight announced, production timelines and casting details are expected to be released in the near future, as Prime Video moves forward with bringing Fourth Wing to screens worldwide.
