AceShowbiz - Young Thug recently shared a tribute post that sparked controversy regarding his past relationship with late rapper Rich Homie Quan.
On social media, Young Thug posted a throwback studio video featuring himself and Rich Homie Quan performing their song "Tell Em." The caption read, "Never switched on u brada always road with u what happened." The post quickly gained widespread attention but also drew criticism from fans questioning the authenticity of their friendship.
Responding to backlash, Young Thug took to Instagram Stories to clarify his perspective. He explained that he distanced himself from rapper YFN Lucci because of conflicts involving Rich Homie Quan at that time. Additionally, Young Thug stated that Quan ultimately stepped away from their friendship, feeling he was "bigger alone."
Defending his loyalty, Young Thug insisted no one could accuse him of switching allegiances, calling himself "the definition of loyalty" in his online remarks.
The two artists rose together amid the Atlanta rap scene's rise in the early 2010s, collaborating on hits like "Lifestyle," "Tell Em," and the Rich Gang mixtape series alongside Birdman. However, by 2015, fans noticed a rift as their joint projects ceased and they publicly drifted apart, eventually acknowledging the end of their friendship.
Reflecting on the loss, Young Thug told Adin Ross last October, "We don't speak on the dead. R.I.P. the boy Quan. I wish we could have made amends before he died."
This tribute and ensuing conversation highlight the complex history between the two rappers and Young Thug's efforts to defend his legacy amid ongoing fan scrutiny.
