AceShowbiz - Noah Kahan has unveiled his latest single, "Porch Light," the second release from his upcoming album, The Great Divide, scheduled for release on April 24 via Mercury Records.
The track was co-written by Kahan and acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner during their very first collaborative session. Production credits include Kahan, Dessner, and Gabe Simon. Recording took place across two studios: Dessner’s Long Pond Studio in Hudson, New York, and Gold Pacific Studios in Nashville.
According to a press statement, "Porch Light" draws inspiration from the emotional burden Kahan felt placing his family’s lives in the spotlight following his previous album, Stick Season. The song is uniquely written from the perspective of his mother, with lyrics expressing hope for relief from the pressures of fame: "I hope you tell me that you're winding down / That you've lost the taste to face the crowd / That whatever made you famous made you sick / That you can only do what pain allows / It ain't up to you to make it out / And there ain't no shame in callin' this thing quits."
Kahan created The Great Divide in various locations, including beside a piano in Nashville, near a pond in Guilford, Vermont, within a renowned studio in upstate New York, and on a farm with a firetower in Only, Tennessee. This album follows his critically praised third record, Stick Season, released in 2022, which earned him a Best New Artist nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The lead track from the new album, also titled "The Great Divide," was shared with fans in January, setting the stage for the full release. Kahan continues to explore themes of personal struggle and emotional complexity in his evolving body of work, with "Porch Light" serving as a poignant reflection on the costs of public success and the desire for peace.
