His brother, Mike Starr, described him as "very unique and special" and confirmed that Beau Starr died peacefully of natural causes on Friday in Vancouver, Canada, as reported by TMZ.
Born on September 1, 1944, in Queens, New York, Starr initially pursued a sports career, spending time on the New York Jets' practice squad from 1966 to 1968. He also played in the Canadian Football League for the Montreal Alouettes and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before transitioning to acting.
Beau Starr made his screen debut in 1979 on the sketch comedy series Bizarre and went on to appear in numerous popular television shows. His TV credits include guest roles on TJ Hooker, Cagney & Lacey, Three’s Company, Knight Rider, The A-Team, MacGyver, Moonlighting, Night Court, Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Wings, NYPD Blue, The Dead Zone, and Psych, among others.
In addition to guest appearances, Starr starred in the NBC crime drama True Blue (1989-1990) as Lt. Bill Triplett and portrayed Lt. Harding Welsh in the CTV crime comedy Due South from 1994 to 1999.
His film roles included Sheriff Ben Meeker in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989). He also appeared in notable movies such as Fletch (1985), Goodfellas (1990), Speed (1994), Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), and Cinderella Man (2005).
