AceShowbiz - A collector has reportedly purchased a notable piece of Drake history as the gold Rolex worn by Drake on the cover of his 2011 album Take Care has sold for an impressive $500,000.
According to WatchPro, the watch, a Rolex GMT Master II, was sold through Wind Vintage for $500,000, a price that exceeds its estimated market value by $400,000 based on data from EveryWatch. Billboard has contacted Drake’s representatives to confirm the sale, though no official statement has been released yet.
This particular Rolex is famously recognized for its unique OVO owl engraving on the back, tying it closely to Drake’s brand and persona. The watch appeared not only on the Take Care album cover but also in the music video for “Marvin’s Room,” the lead single from the album.
“Marvin’s Room” achieved significant chart success, reaching No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Released in November 2011, Take Care debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 631,000 album units in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan (now Luminate). The album is also ranked No. 31 on Billboard’s list of the 100 Greatest Rap Albums of All Time.
Eric Wind of Wind Vintage commented on the booming market for collectible watches, telling WatchPro, “I have never seen the collectible watch market hotter than it is today. The velocity with which we are selling the watches, frequently within minutes of listing, is mind-blowing.” He added that the buying audience is diverse and highly educated, which reduces market risk and keeps demand strong.
Drake has frequently referenced his luxury watches in his music, highlighting his affinity for high-end timepieces. For example, in his song “Nonstop,” he raps, “This a Rollie, not a stopwatch, s-t don’t ever stop.”
Fans may soon hear more about Drake’s wristwear or other personal details in his upcoming album Iceman, which is scheduled for release on May 15. Until then, the sale of this Rolex remains a significant moment for collectors and admirers of the rap icon’s legacy.
