AceShowbiz - Britney Spears is facing legal troubles following an arrest for allegedly driving under the influence in March 2026. On Thursday, April 30, prosecutors in Ventura County, California, formally charged Britney Spears with one misdemeanor count of DUI.
The arraignment for Spears is set for Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m. PT. Notably, she is not required to appear in person, and her attorney is expected to represent her at the hearing.
A statement issued by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office revealed plans to offer Spears a plea agreement commonly referred to as a "wet reckless." This type of plea deal is typically extended to defendants who have no prior DUI convictions, present a low blood alcohol level during the incident, and were not involved in any crashes or injuries.
The DA’s office further explained that this resolution is frequent when defendants show a willingness to address underlying problems, often demonstrated through rehabilitation or treatment programs. Earlier this month, Spears voluntarily entered a rehab facility, which may influence the decision to offer the plea deal.
If Spears accepts the "wet reckless" plea, she will plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs. The likely consequences include 12 months of probation, payment of fines and fees, completion of a DUI education class, and credit for any time already spent in custody.
Attempts to obtain a comment from Spears' representative were not immediately successful.
