AceShowbiz - At 28 years old, Jung Kook continues to evolve both as an artist and an individual. Despite his global fame as a member of BTS and his significant solo achievements, he candidly admits that he is still discovering who he is. Having been part of BTS since age 15, he has spent nearly half his life in the spotlight, growing up alongside the group and its worldwide success.
Jung Kook shares that his signature smooth tenor voice has become stronger over time, yet he is still building confidence in his songwriting abilities. He notably took a more active role in writing for BTS's recent album compared to his solo debut. Interestingly, he was also one of BTS’s earliest fans, drawn to BigHit Music largely because of RM, whom he describes as “really, really cool and awesome.” This deep connection to BTS's journey continues to inspire him.
When asked about establishing himself as a solo pop star, Jung Kook humbly states, “I can’t really think of myself as a pop star just yet.” Although he appreciates the recognition from fans and media, he aspires to improve continually so that one day he can truly embrace that identity for himself.
He knows exactly what it would take to reach that point: improving his English skills. Jung Kook explains that being able to engage in casual conversation in English would be a major breakthrough for him, but he finds the language challenging. He’s tried numerous language apps, emphasizing that persistence is key to progress.
Despite the difficulties, his English pronunciation while singing is praised as very good. He credits his good ear for music and careful attention to detail, but acknowledges that English remains a foreign language. Jung Kook is committed to practicing so that native speakers are comfortable hearing him speak.
Regarding how his solo success has influenced his approach to BTS’s new album, Jung Kook describes himself as a carefree and open person who doesn’t overthink daily matters. When it comes to music and work, he expresses his opinions freely but does not stress. He notes that while some members experienced stress, he personally enjoyed the process and pursued what felt right to him.
He elaborates on the group's dynamic, highlighting that each BTS member has a unique background and operates at their own pace. Their diverse tastes in music and food reflect their individuality, yet they collaborate effectively to create music together. This variety in personalities and lifestyles is something RM referred to when discussing how the members’ boundaries and approaches have evolved over time.
Jung Kook also reflects on his growth as a songwriter. He feels proud of his contributions to the latest BTS album, especially the track “Hooligan,” where he quickly developed a new flow upon hearing the beat. The song’s fresh sound was well received by Hitman Bang and fellow members, which made the experience rewarding. Although he received help with writing English lyrics, he appreciates the cool factor of being involved in that process.
Overall, Jung Kook remains a humble, hardworking artist who embraces both his solo and group roles with openness, carefreeness, and a commitment to growth.
