AceShowbiz - M.I.A. has released her seventh studio album, M.I.7, through her independent label OHMNIMUSIC. The project is uniquely crafted with seven tracks, each composed in a different location over seven days, capturing a global musical journey.
The album was written and recorded in diverse countries including Ethiopia, Egypt, India, the United Kingdom, Greece, Australia, and the United States at Rick Rubin's Shangri La Studio. A notable collaboration on the record is with the American gospel group Sunday Service, adding a spiritual dimension to the sound.
M.I.7 conceptually revolves around the seven trumpets from the Book of Revelation. Each trumpet symbolizes a biblical judgment, serving as a narrative framework that leads into the next song, creating a cohesive thematic progression throughout the album.
According to a press release, the album’s concept "emerged as a vision that revealed itself before the recording process began, which demanded to be followed." This visionary approach guided the creation of the album, which also includes the previously released single "Everything."
M.I.A. last released an album in 2022 titled MATA. At that time, Rolling Stone commented on her previous work, noting that while it engaged with past influences and contemporary trends, it was uncertain if she still had new messages to convey.
