AceShowbiz - 99 Nights in the Forest is set to become a feature film after 20th Century Studios secured the theatrical rights to the popular Roblox game on Monday. Developed by Grandma's Favourite Games, this action-survival title has rapidly gained a massive player base and now will be adapted for the big screen.
The film project currently has no announced director or writer attached. However, the game's New Zealand-based creators, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland, will take on executive producer roles. J.R. Young will oversee the project on behalf of 20th Century Studios, with Michelle Kamme leading the acquisition strategy amid a competitive bidding process.
In 99 Nights in the Forest, players face the daunting challenge of surviving 99 nights within a haunted forest environment. The game’s narrative centers on rescuing four lost children while contending with hostile creatures, including aggressive deer and other beasts. Since its launch less than a year ago, it has quickly become the seventh most-played game on Roblox, boasting a peak concurrent player count of 14.2 million. This figure ranks it third for all-time peak players on the platform and regularly draws hundreds of thousands of users simultaneously.
The adaptation highlights the growing trend of translating successful video game properties into films, especially those originating from online multiplayer platforms like Roblox. While details remain scarce, the involvement of the original creators as executive producers suggests a close collaboration to maintain the game’s essence in the upcoming movie version.
