Ice Cube's War of the Worlds sweeps the 2026 Razzies, winning Worst Picture, Actor, Director, and more. A cult hate-watch is born.
- April 10, 2026
AceShowbiz - The 2026 Golden Raspberry Awards have delivered a harsh verdict on the 2025 sci-fi film War of the Worlds, starring Ice Cube. The movie took home the dubious distinction of worst picture of the year, as announced on Friday, March 13. It was nominated in six categories and won five, making it nearly a clean sweep at this year's Razzies.
Along with the worst picture accolade, Ice Cube was named worst actor for his lead role in the film. Director Rich Lee earned the worst director award, while the screenplay by Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman received the worst screenplay prize. The film was also labeled the worst prequel, remake, rip-off, or sequel, rounding out its five wins.
The Razzies, formally known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, described War of the Worlds as "a cult hate-watch classic almost immediately," according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday. Organizers emphasized that the 2025 adaptation has been "cemented in Razzie history as a near sweeper of our $4.97 trophy winner."
They added that director Rich Lee, perhaps inspired by cult filmmaker Ed Wood, chose a "goofy gimmick, hack dialogue and a particularly hilarious performance by its lead, Ice Cube," ultimately destroying the legacy of H.G. Wells' classic novel.
Aside from War of the Worlds, other notable winners included the "all seven artificial dwarfs" from Disney's live-action Snow White (2025), who collectively won both worst supporting actors and worst screen combo awards. The Razzies organizers humorously speculated that the film might be "cursed by Walt [Disney] himself for having ignored his dying wish for it never to be remade," citing its financial failure despite a high production cost.
In a rare positive highlight, Kate Hudson received the 2026 Razzie Redeemer Award for her Oscar-nominated role as Claire Sardina in Song Sung Blue. This marked a significant turnaround after Hudson had previously been recognized unfavorably at the Razzies for multiple past performances. Organizers praised her "pitch-perfect performance" in the acclaimed movie.
The Razzies voting was conducted online, with 1,223 members casting their votes for the 2026 awards.
