AceShowbiz - Adrian Grenier has addressed his absence from the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, sharing his feelings in a new Starbucks commercial.
The original film, released in 2006, featured Grenier as Nate, the chef boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs. Fans were eager to see if his character would return in the 2026 follow-up, but it was confirmed in July 2025 that Grenier would not be part of the project.
Despite his disappointment at not being invited back, Grenier expressed no hard feelings in the Starbucks Energy Refreshers ad. “You might have seen the headlines - I wasn't asked to be part of a certain sequel. But I'm good. Really. It's all good energy,” he says in the commercial. The scene reveals him chatting with a Starbucks barista, highlighting his lighthearted approach.
In the ad, Grenier raises a toast to his character Nate, describing him as someone who “made a mean sandwich” and “loved his girlfriend, to a point.” He adds, “He wasn't perfect. So let's leave Nate in 2006 and keep this good energy going.” The spot closes with a playful note from the actor, saying, “I mean, if they call, I'm free.”
The sequel will bring back much of the original cast, including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, with director David Frankel also returning. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026.
Earlier in March, Grenier told Page Six that missing out on the sequel was “a disappointment,” but he understood some of the backlash surrounding his character Nate might have influenced the decision. He also suggested the possibility of a spin-off centered on Nate, saying, “It leaves room for a beautiful spinoff in which Nate has his own film.”
The Devil Wears Prada remains a beloved film, and the sequel is highly anticipated by fans eager to see the return of iconic characters and new story developments. However, Grenier seems content to let his character rest while maintaining a positive outlook on the situation.
As the release date approaches, audiences will get to revisit the glamorous and challenging world of fashion magazine Runway through the eyes of Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) and her team, while Nate's story remains a fond memory from the original film.
