AceShowbiz - Zayn Malik recently opened up about how his daughter, Khai, inspired a special collaboration with BLACKPINK’s Jisoo.
During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Pulse on Tuesday, March 31, Zayn discussed his upcoming album, Konnakol, and how he shares his music with his five-year-old daughter to get her feedback.
When asked if he gauges the appeal of his new songs by testing them on Khai, the "Pillowtalk" singer explained, "She loves my music and she definitely gives me an opinion." He added that she uses a thumbs up, thumbs down, or thumbs sideways system to rate his tracks, where a thumbs up and a sideways thumb means the song is “pretty good.”
Zayn revealed that Khai gave a double thumbs up for several songs on the album, while a couple received a sideways thumb, indicating less enthusiasm. This feedback plays a role in shaping his musical direction.
What truly influenced Zayn creatively, however, was Khai’s passion for K-pop. "She’s into TWICE. She’s into BLACKPINK," he said. This admiration motivated him to collaborate with Jisoo, as he wanted to impress his daughter and earn some "good dad points."
Last year, Zayn and Jisoo teamed up for the Hot 100-charting single "Eyes Closed," a collaboration that came shortly after Zayn took Khai to see BLACKPINK perform live. He believes this gesture was a success in winning his daughter’s approval.
Zayn confirmed that his family remains a key influence in his creative process. "I’m always thinking of my daughter when making new music," he shared.
Zayn’s fifth solo studio album, Konnakol, is set to release on April 17. Following the album launch, he will begin the Konnakol Tour, marking his first arena and stadium tour as a solo artist.
This insight into Zayn’s personal life reveals how parenthood intertwines with his artistry, blending family inspiration with his evolving sound. Fans can look forward to experiencing this blend when the album drops and the tour kicks off.
