AceShowbiz - The famously extravagant and vibrant Eurovision Song Contest is embarking on an exciting new journey by launching its first-ever Asian edition this year.
The debut event is set to culminate with a grand finale on November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. Leading up to this, national selection competitions will be held across participating countries to determine their representatives. Currently, 10 nations have confirmed their involvement, with expectations for more to join the celebration.
The confirmed countries participating are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. This expansion reflects the contest’s growing global appeal and its desire to embrace diverse musical cultures.
As Eurovision approaches its 70th anniversary, its director, Martin Green, emphasized the significance of this milestone. In a statement, he noted that opening this new chapter in Asia is particularly meaningful due to the region's vast cultural richness, creativity, and talent.
"This is about evolving Eurovision together with Asia, building something that reflects the voices, identities and ambitions of the region, while staying true to what has always made the Contest special," Green said. He added that the Asian edition will be shaped collaboratively by artists, broadcasters, and audiences, continuing the contest’s enduring mission of uniting people through music.
The Asian version of the contest aims to infuse the signature maximalist pop spirit of the original Eurovision with the unique cultural flavors of Asia, promising a vibrant and dynamic musical showcase for fans worldwide this fall.
