AceShowbiz - Seekers of Infinite Love finally makes its debut Thursday night at SXSW after a lengthy development period, revealing a sharp and witty comedy centered on dysfunctional siblings. Directed and written by Victoria Strouse, this film’s journey included earlier plans for stars like Jennifer Aniston but ultimately found its perfect timing with Hannah Einbinder in the lead role. Known for her Emmy-winning performance in Hacks, Einbinder shines brilliantly in her first major movie role.
The story unfolds as a road trip featuring three adult siblings—Kayla (played by Einbinder), her brother Zach (John Reynolds), and the unpredictable Wes (Griffin Gluck)—who are on a mission to find their youngest sister, Scarlett (Justine Lupe). Scarlett has become entangled in a secretive and manipulative group called the Seekers of Infinite Wisdom. The siblings discover that the cult’s leader, Hal (Greg Kinnear), is planning a mass suicide in just two days, reminiscent of the infamous Jim Jones tragedy.
As the siblings race against time, they confront their own complex issues while attempting to rescue Scarlett from the hypnotic influence of Hal, a charismatic con man with a ponytail who preys on vulnerable followers. Scarlett’s escape from her flawed family contrasts with the siblings’ realization that each of them harbors their own dysfunctions, adding layers of tension and dark humor to the narrative.
Seekers of Infinite Love balances comedy and drama in a unique way, delivering sharp dialogue and compelling performances. The film explores themes of family loyalty, personal struggle, and cult psychology with a fresh perspective, making it a standout at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
