AceShowbiz - Fans of the The Mummy franchise starring Brendan Fraser have developments as a fourth film is in development. While horror fans anticipate Lee Cronin’s new Mummy movie, the Brendan Fraser-led series is returning.
Most notably, Brendan Fraser is confirmed to reprise his role as Rick O'Connell. Alongside him, Rachel Weisz will return as Evelyn Carnahan.
Recently, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that John Hannah is also set to return as Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn’s brother.
Although the return of John Hannah is a positive development, there remain notable absences in the casting for The Mummy 4. Two key characters from the earlier films have yet to be confirmed.
Among the most anticipated, yet unconfirmed, returning cast members is Oded Fehr, who portrayed Ardeth Bay. Ardeth Bay, the leader of the Medjai, was a crucial figure sworn to protect the world from Imhotep’s resurrection. His role as an ally to Rick and Evelyn was pivotal in the original trilogy.
Another major missing piece is the original antagonist, Imhotep, famously played by Arnold Vosloo. Vosloo’s portrayal of Imhotep was iconic, delivering a memorable and menacing villain in the first two movies. However, his character sacrificed himself at the conclusion of The Mummy Returns.
Currently, the directorial reins for The Mummy 4 are in the hands of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. Detailed plot information and additional casting announcements remain under wraps.
While the confirmed return of Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah has been received, the absence of Oded Fehr and Arnold Vosloo leaves questions about the full scope of the cast and story.
