AceShowbiz - The Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has remained tight-lipped about whether he will reprise his iconic role as Frodo Baggins in the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis. While no official announcement has been made, Wood expressed enthusiasm about the possibility during a recent interview with The Times U.K.
Wood referenced a moment last August when his co-star Ian McKellen hinted at the project during a fan convention, suggesting that the film might be moving forward. "It hasn't been officially announced, but at a convention last August, Ian sort of let the cat out of the bag," Wood explained. Although he could not confirm details, he conveyed excitement about revisiting the beloved Middle-earth universe.
He acknowledged the apprehension fans often feel when new stories in the franchise are announced, noting the protective nature of the audience toward the legacy of the original films. However, Wood described the new story as "fun" and "thrilling," emphasizing a strong sense of camaraderie akin to "getting the band back together." He also stated he would prefer to continue portraying Frodo himself, adding that he wouldn't want anyone else to take on the role "as long as I'm alive and able."
This upcoming film is anticipated to explore the story surrounding Gollum, a character central to the original trilogy.
