AceShowbiz - The long-awaited trailer for Dune: Part Three is set to debut this Tuesday, building anticipation for the next chapter in the acclaimed sci-fi saga. Deadline previewed the trailer ahead of the public release and participated in an exclusive Q&A with director Denis Villeneuve, promising exciting insights and revelations about the film and the iconic spice central to the story.
Fans have already begun to ramp up excitement for the upcoming installment, with star Timothée Chalamet unveiling his character poster on social media early Monday. Warner Bros. followed with several additional character posters, including a notable announcement that Isaach de Bankolé has joined the cast as a new character named Farok.
Other eagerly awaited details include confirmation of new cast members, some previously reported, and questions about the fates of key characters such as Chalamet's Paul Atreides and Zendaya's Chani. Fans are also curious about how prominently Rebecca Ferguson will feature in this third film.
Dune: Part Three is adapted from Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. This third installment continues the sprawling saga that Legendary has developed into a multi-format science fiction universe.
Among the confirmed cast, Robert Pattinson returns, revealing in interviews that filming in the desert was intense but relaxing, describing a state where his brain “was not operating” as he followed director Villeneuve's lead. Insider reports have identified Pattinson’s role as the villainous Scytale.
The movie was reportedly filmed last summer with partial use of IMAX cameras, ensuring high visual quality. Another notable casting addition is Anya Taylor-Joy, who will portray Alia Atreides, Paul’s younger sister, a character teased at the end of the previous film.
The recently released character posters feature nine key figures: Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), Anya Taylor-Joy (Alia Atreides), Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), Isaach De Bankolé (Farok), Jason Momoa (Duncan Idaho), Javier Bardem (Stilgar), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), and Robert Pattinson (Scytale).
So far, the Dune film series includes two major feature films: 2021’s Dune: Part One and last year’s Dune: Part Two. Together, they have amassed a combined $1.12 billion at the global box office and earned eight Oscars from 15 nominations, including Best Picture nods for both films.
Expanding the universe further, the prequel TV series Dune: Prophecy, created by Lost writer-producer Alison Schapker, premiered on HBO and HBO Max in November to critical acclaim. Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides rises to power, the show deepens the lore of the Dune saga.
With the trailer launch imminent and fresh character posters unveiled, anticipation is building for Dune: Part Three, poised to continue the epic narrative and visual spectacle that fans have come to expect from this groundbreaking franchise.
