AceShowbiz - Lil Yachty recently shared his personal Mount Rushmore of SoundCloud rappers, highlighting key figures who dominated the platform during the late 2010s. In a discussion on Bootleg Kev's podcast released on February 25, Yachty named the artists he believes truly defined the SoundCloud era.
Yachty included himself, Lil Uzi Vert, XXXTentacion, Playboi Carti, Lil Peep, and Lil Tracy in his lineup. He emphasized that these rappers represented the core of the SoundCloud wave, saying, "In my opinion, I always said it was me, Uzi, X like we're talking actual SoundCloud." He also pointed out Lil Tracy as a major figure deserving recognition.
Interestingly, Yachty did not include the late Juice WRLD on his list, explaining that "Juice really wasn't a part of our era. He came after us." Reflecting on the time, he recalled other artists like Tay-K, who was gaining momentum before his legal issues intervened. Yachty noted, "I think Tay-K would've been huge."
The period between 2015 and 2019, often called the "SoundCloud Era," saw numerous artists rise through the platform’s unique grassroots exposure. Besides those named by Yachty, others like Trippie Redd, 21 Savage, Ski Mask The Slump God, and Wifisfuneral made significant impacts in that era.
Lil Yachty's choices highlight the diversity and influence of these artists during a transformational time in hip hop, showcasing how SoundCloud served as a launchpad for many prominent careers in the late 2010s.
