AceShowbiz - HarbourView announced on Thursday that it has secured the rights to select music and non-music assets from the estate of the legendary producer Quincy Jones.
The agreement covers both Jones' recorded music and publishing catalogs, as well as his executive producer role in the acclaimed television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Additionally, the deal includes a partnership concerning Jones' name, image, and likeness rights, ensuring his legacy is preserved across multiple platforms.
Quincy Jones, who passed away in 2024, is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in music history. His production credits feature iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, and Michael Jackson. Notably, he produced some of Jackson's most celebrated albums, including Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.
Rashida Jones, the actress and daughter of Jones, reflected on her father’s innovative spirit in a statement. She described him as "endlessly curious and always ahead of his time," emphasizing how long before the term "multi-platform" became popular, Jones was already bridging the worlds of music, film, television, publishing, technology, and culture.
She highlighted his role in creating cultural milestones such as Thriller, The Color Purple, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Vibe. Rashida further stated that their family’s responsibility is to protect not just the catalog but also the passion and spirit behind it. She expressed confidence that HarbourView shares this vision and has the expertise to sustain Jones' enduring impact for future generations.
Quincy Jones III, the son of Jones, also commented on the partnership, calling HarbourView the "clear partner" for their family. He pointed out that his father did more than create hits; he built platforms that shaped culture across various industries including music, film, media, and technology.
Jones III emphasized his father’s early embrace of innovation as a creative tool. From serving on the board of MIT to expanding the possibilities of storytelling, Jones was passionate about empowering upcoming creatives and viewed technology as a means to do so ethically.
This acquisition is part of a series of high-profile deals closed by HarbourView since its founding in 2021. The company has also made significant catalog purchases from artists and producers such as SlipKnot, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, and Kelly Clarkson.
Sherrese Clarke, CEO of HarbourView Equity Partners, praised Jones as more than a once-in-a-generation talent, describing him as a "once-in-a-century architect of culture." She affirmed that the partnership with the estate is built on profound respect for Jones' creative vision and a long-term commitment to protecting his work, likeness, and cultural influence for years to come.
