According to a report from TMZ, which cited his daughter and the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Bobby J. Brown died from smoke inhalation and diffuse thermal injuries. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a vehicle he was jump-starting in the barn accidentally caught fire.
His daughter told the outlet that Brown called for a family member to bring a fire extinguisher, but the barn was already engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office deemed the fire an accident.
His agent, Albert Bramante, expressed his sorrow to TMZ, stating, "I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with."
Bobby J. Brown made several guest appearances as Officer Bobby Brown on the acclaimed HBO series The Wire. His other television credits included roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and We Own This City. His film work included the 2008 movie From Within and the 2023 film Mailman.
His passing follows the deaths of several of his The Wire co-stars in recent years, including Michael K. Williams in 2021 and Lance Reddick in 2023.
Before his acting career, Brown was an amateur boxer who won five Golden Glove Championships. He later studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He is survived by his son and daughter.
