AceShowbiz - Live television is famously unpredictable, and the hosts of the Today Show were given a stark reminder when a guest let profanity slip during a recent broadcast. Today Show anchors Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin were interviewing Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin when the shocking moment occurred.
The incident happened as Shiffrin discussed her emotional win in the women's slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics. She explained how the loss of her father in 2020 inspired her performance, leading to an unfiltered moment of reflection. "I think there's been, definitely, a spiritual journey I've been on the last year. I just, I don't know, I took a moment and I said, 'F**king...'" Shiffrin said before abruptly stopping.
Realizing her mistake, the Olympian made it worse by exclaiming, "S**t! Oh my God, I'm so sorry." Kotb and Melvin immediately burst into laughter at the live flub. Hoda Kotb jokingly assured Shiffrin that the show would cover any potential FCC fines, while Craig Melvin noted that her gold medal likely earned her some leeway.
The profanity aired live but was bleeped out in the subsequent upload to the show's YouTube channel. Following the interview, Mikaela Shiffrin offered another apology and a possible explanation for the slip. She revealed she had not been drinking for about two years, but was given multiple espresso martinis the night before to celebrate. "So, everybody kept bringing them to me, which may be some of the reason for the swearing. So sorry again," she said.
The segment occurred during a sensitive time for the Today Show team. Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is currently absent due to a family crisis involving her missing mother. Hoda Kotb had returned to the morning show to fill in during Guthrie's absence.
