AceShowbiz - Tool is currently negotiating a residency at the cutting-edge Las Vegas Sphere, potentially aligning with the release of their next album in 2027.

During a recent interview with Spiral Out, Tool’s drummer, Danny Carey, revealed that the band is actively working on new material following their 2019 album Fear Inoculum. “We’re working on a lot of new Tool songs right now,” Carey shared, with hopes to launch the fresh tracks in 2027.

When asked about the band’s signature blend of music and immersive visuals, Carey confirmed their enthusiasm for cinematic live experiences. “We’re very much into that,” he explained. “We’re hoping that when the new record comes out, we might do a run at the Sphere because I think we’re the perfect band for that. We’ve been in talks with the venue’s team.”

He further highlighted the scale of commitment needed for a Sphere residency, noting the intense preparation and financial investment involved. “It’s a very expensive endeavour,” Carey said. “You need to perform quite a few shows before it becomes profitable.”

Carey also shared his impression of the Sphere venue after a personal tour. “I haven’t attended a full show there yet, but the tour was incredible. I almost got vertigo just looking at it,” he said, emphasizing the venue’s awe-inspiring design.

The Sphere, which opened in September 2023, is a $2.3 billion state-of-the-art entertainment venue in Las Vegas. It features an exterior covered with over 1.2 million LED panels capable of projecting spectacular images visible across the city skyline.

The venue debuted with a residency by U2, which was praised for elevating live concert experiences while keeping the band’s music front and center. Since then, artists like Phish, Dead & Company, The Eagles, and Backstreet Boys have also held successful runs at the Sphere. Additionally, the venue hosts an immersive 4D production of The Wizard of Oz, showcasing its versatility.

Tool is not the only metal act linked to the Sphere. Last year, rumors circulated that Metallica was close to securing a residency at the venue in 2027, adding to the speculation around major bands performing at this innovative location.
