AceShowbiz - Jessa Duggar, known for her appearances on TLC's 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, has recently shared a significant health update regarding her youngest son, Edward. The dedicated mother of six revealed a crucial change she's implemented in her own diet in response to a persistent and uncomfortable rash affecting her four-month-old infant.
In a candid video posted to her YouTube channel on November 10, Jessa Duggar detailed the puzzling rash that had appeared on little Edward. "He has had this rash," she explained, clarifying that while it might resemble cradle cap, its characteristics were distinctly different. Unlike typical cradle cap, which is often described by the Mayo Clinic as "crusty or oily scaly patches on a baby's scalp" and is not typically itchy, Edward's rash was causing him considerable discomfort due to its itchiness.
This wasn't the first time Jessa had encountered such a condition with one of her children. She recalled a similar experience with her son, Henry, now eight years old. "Henry had the same rash on his head—eczema—under his arms and all of his creases," she recounted. Back then, when Henry was also around four months old, Jessa made the decision to eliminate dairy from her diet, believing it might be connected through breastfeeding. Her efforts proved successful, as Henry's symptoms subsequently cleared up. This past success provided a clear path forward for Jessa in addressing Edward's current struggles.
With this prior experience in mind, Jessa Duggar, who also shares children Spurgeon (9), Ivy (6), Fern (4), and George (22 months) with husband Ben Seewald, made the proactive choice to go dairy-free once again. Her hope was that by altering her own diet, she could alleviate Edward's discomfort through their breastfeeding relationship. The initial results have been promising, bringing a sense of relief to the family. After just one week, Jessa noted that her infant's skin was already "looking a lot clearer."
"He still has some rash on his torso, but his head is looking so much better," she affirmed, expressing her strong belief that dairy might indeed be the root cause. However, she also admitted, "but that is not fun." The dietary restriction has presented its own set of challenges, particularly for Jessa's personal enjoyment. Her 33rd birthday on November 4 passed without the usual celebratory treats like ice cream or her beloved cup of coffee, which she typically enjoys with whole milk.
In fact, the lack of dairy prompted her to give up coffee entirely for the time being. "Whenever I went off of dairy with Henry I tried the substitutes, and I just didn’t prefer them," she explained, highlighting that the experience simply wasn't the same. While missing her daily caffeine fix, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar's daughter acknowledged a silver lining, confessing, "It’s good to have that reset every now and then anyway."
Beyond personal cravings, navigating a dairy-free lifestyle adds complexity to everyday activities, particularly when dining out. Jessa voiced her concerns about the hidden dairy in restaurant meals, musing, "Oh, is this really dairy-free? Did they put butter on this? Did they forget?" While clarifying that she doesn't suffer from a severe condition like celiac disease, she emphasized the importance of her efforts. "But I would say like your baby breaking out with a rash is kind of a big deal," she stated, underscoring the motivation behind her dietary sacrifice. Her dedication to her children's well-being, as demonstrated by this significant personal adjustment, resonates deeply with many parents facing similar health concerns for their little ones.
