AceShowbiz - The Supernatural series is going back to its roots with a new comic story set during Season 1 of the long-running horror-action series. Supernatural is returning to a simpler time in the Winchester brothers' history, when they had no idea the extent of the horrors in store for them. The new comic series, written by Grek Pak with art by Eder Messias, will explore the early days of Sam and Dean's demon-hunting journey.
The preview for Supernatural #1 starts with the familiar grisly imagery of someone bursting into flames, before cutting to the Winchester brothers. Already, the new comic series is teasing a connection to the franchise's OG villain, Azazel, or the "Yellow-Eyes Demon" in its debut storyline. This storyline can shed more light on how Sam and Dean came to be the iconic duo fans love today.
At its core, Supernatural is about the relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester. As expansive and sprawling as the franchise's mythology became as it progressed, its universe always fundamentally revolved around Sam and Dean. The new Supernatural comic series returns to a time when they had no idea the extent of the horrors in store for them. In Supernatural #1, Sam is still processing the trauma of losing his girlfriend Jess; the issue flashes back to the nightmarish moment at the end of the show's pilot episode, in which Jess shared the Winchester boys' mother's fate, pinned to the ceiling by an unknown force and set ablaze.
Supernatural fans are eager for more Season 1-era adventures, and the new comic prioritizes the protagonists. By going back to Season 1, Supernatural is giving fans more of what they want, first and foremost: Sam and Dean's dynamic. As much as the preview for Supernatural #1 makes it clear the series isn't going to shy away from the franchise's trademark horror imagery, its true highlight is the brotherly dynamic between Sam and Dean. The similar spontaneous combustion of a seemingly unrelated character just beforehand suggests that the Supernatural comic's story is going to tie into the early seasons' Azazel storyline in some way.
The new Supernatural comic series, Supernatural #1, written by Grek Pak and art by Eder Messias, will be available on October 29, 2025, from Dynamite Entertainment. This new series is a great opportunity for fans to revisit the early days of Sam and Dean's journey and experience the classic Supernatural action they love.
