AceShowbiz - The highly anticipated new series, Harlan Coben's Lazarus, has debuted on Prime Video, bringing another intricate mystery from the acclaimed master of suspense, Harlan Coben. Starring a powerful duo in Sam Claflin (known for The Hunger Games, Peaky Blinders, and Daisy Jones & the Six) and the legendary Bill Nighy, the show promises a compelling, twist-filled narrative that kept even its lead actor desperate for more.

Based on an original script co-written by best-selling author Harlan Coben and BAFTA winner Danny Brocklehurst, the six-episode thriller plunges viewers and characters alike into a labyrinth of unexplained phenomena and cold-case murders. The official synopsis reveals a dark premise: “Joel Lazarus (played by Sam Claflin) returns home after his father Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (portrayed by Bill Nighy) dies by suicide and begins to have disturbing experiences that can’t be explained.” As he grapples with the profound mystery of his father’s death, Joel quickly finds himself entangled in a series of unsolved murders, dredging up the painful memory of his sister’s murder 25 years prior.

For Sam Claflin, the decision to join the production was initially spurred by the name attached. “Initially, it was Harlan Coben’s name being attached to the project,” the British star told The Hollywood Reporter. His subsequent experience mirrored that of many devoted Coben fans. “I was reading episode one and when I got to the end, I needed to read episode two,” he explained. However, the second episode wasn't readily available. “There was a brief overview of what episode two would include, but I insisted and begged and desperately pleaded. They eventually forwarded me an early draft, and I got to the end of that and was like, ‘I need episode three.’” This insatiable desire for the next chapter was, as Claflin concluded, “a good sign there was something worth exploring here.”

The star’s enthusiasm only grew upon collaborating with director Wayne Che Yip, who also serves as an executive producer. Claflin praised Yip’s vision, stating, “He’s created such an incredibly rich world and had a very clear vision and imagery of characters and the silhouettes of the characters.” The involvement of Quay Street Productions, alongside Amazon MGM Studios and Final Twist Productions, was another significant draw. The expansive cast for Harlan Coben's Lazarus also features talents such as Alexandra Roach, David Fynn, Karla Crome, and Kate Ashfield, adding further depth to this compelling new series. Executive producers include Coben, Brocklehurst, Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, Sam Claflin himself, and Wayne Che Yip.
