Michael Bolton talks about his battle with a rare and aggressive brain cancer and explains that the health ordeal has affected his speech, mobility, and short-term memory.

AceShowbiz - Michael Bolton, the Grammy-winning artist beloved for hits like "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," has recently opened up about his battle with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Diagnosed in December 2023, he first announced his condition via a courageous interview with People magazine.

In the months following his emergency brain surgery, Bolton experienced a whirlwind of treatments, including a second surgery due to an infection and months of radiation and chemotherapy, concluding in October 2024.

Following these rigorous treatments, Bolton faced deficits in speech, short-term memory, and mobility. "I feel there's still a lot to do on the fight side," he said. However, his recent MRI scan in April 2025 showed no signs of the tumor's return, offering a glimmer of hope in a challenging journey.

"Succumbing to the challenge is not an option," Bolton stated emphatically, showcasing his resilient mindset. "You're really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that's the way you find out what you're made of."

Bolton's family has been a cornerstone of his support system. His daughters Isa, Holly, and Taryn, along with his six grandchildren, have rallied around him, providing emotional strength and laughter despite the gravity of his diagnosis. "It's unimaginable moving forward without my family being so on board," Bolton shared. "This is a house of laughter, thankfully."

One particular moment stands out: shortly after his December surgery, Bolton began singing in his hospital room, much to the astonishment of a nurse unaware of his illustrious career. Holly, 47, fondly recalled the moment, "I remember one of the nurses had no idea who he was, and she's like, 'Do you know he sings like this?' "

This battle has reshaped Bolton's view on legacy and what he wishes to leave behind for his children. "How do I give things that they can take forward? Life lessons, love, any kind of validation that I can give [them]," he reflected. "It's a reality of mortality. Suddenly a new light has gone on that raises questions, including 'Am I doing the best that I can do with my time?' "

Through it all, Bolton continues to find solace in music and songwriting. Music remains a vital part of his recovery process, feeding his spirit and driving his determination. "I want to keep going," he affirmed. "I feel there's still a lot to do on the fight side. I got a title for a song: 'Ain't Going Down Without a Fight.' "

By sharing his experience publicly, Bolton aims to offer comfort, hope, and inspiration to others facing similar battles. "Whenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you're not alone going through it is a big deal. It actually helps people to know."
