AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande returns atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with her recently reissued "Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead." The deluxe edition of her 2024 album "Eternal Sunshine" makes an extraordinary leap from No. 87 to No. 1 on the April 12-dated chart.
According to Luminate, the album powered by six new songs and a range of new features earned 137,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending April 3, a staggering 968% increase from the previous week.
Originally released with 13 tracks, "Eternal Sunshine" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in March 2024, driven by chart-topping hits like "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)."
Its return to the No. 1 spot comes after a year-long absence from the top of the chart. The album's deluxe version added one extended track and five new songs, propelling its resurgence. The new tracks, including "Twilight Zone" and "Dandelion," are expected to perform well on various streaming platforms, including Spotify's daily Top Songs charts.
The deluxe reissue was released in several formats, including digital downloads, CDs, and vinyl LPs, featuring different variants for fans.
Grande introduced three exclusive digital download versions: one with the standard 19 tracks, another with the instrumentals of each track, and a third featuring a cappella versions. This approach provided fans with a variety of choices, further boosting sales and streaming numbers.
In addition to digital downloads, several physical versions were made available, such as two vinyl variants and six CD editions, some signed by Grande herself. The appeal of these collectibles contributed significantly to the album's impressive sales figures, comprising 61,000 of the total equivalent album units reported.
Grande's "Eternal Sunshine" knocks Playboi Carti's "MUSIC" off No. 1, forcing it to settle at No. 2 with 91,000 equivalent album units, bolstered primarily by streaming. Meanwhile, Lil Durk lands his seventh top 10 album with "Deep Thoughts," debuting at No. 3 with 64,000 units, mainly from streaming as well.
The Billboard 200 chart uses a combination of album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA) to determine its rankings. Each unit equals one album sale or a proportional amount from tracks sold or streamed. Luminate, the independent data provider for Billboard, ensures that all data submissions are thoroughly reviewed for accuracy.
Ariana Grande's "Eternal Sunshine" demonstrates the power of deluxe reissues in keeping an album alive on the charts, reengaging fans, and attracting new listeners.
