AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran has officially kicked off his next musical journey, unleashing a catchy happy single "Azizam". He invites everyone to play, "Meet me on the floor tonight/ Show me how to move like the water/ In between the dancing lights/ Be mine, be mine, Azizam."
As he revealed during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, "Azizam" means "my dear" in Farsi, inspired by producer Illya Salmanzadeh's Persian heritage.
"Azizam" is the lead single from Sheeran's upcoming eighth album, aptly titled "Play". This track, with its vibrant and danceable beats, was introduced to the world in a rather unconventional way.
Sheeran first debuted "Azizam" live on the streets of New Orleans during a surprise performance in the city's French Quarter, where he was accompanied by the Soul Rebels brass band.
He's also been popping up at various venues, including an Irish pub in Boston on St. Patrick's Day and Nashville's Tootsies bar, to treat unsuspecting fans to live renditions of his latest music.
The excitement doesn't stop there. Sheeran shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Azizam" through an attached "Pink Heart" video, featuring footage shot across the United States while he was promoting the song throughout the month.
During his March stint on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", the four-time Grammy winner not only debuted his new single but also shed light on his grand vision for the future.
The album "Play" will be the first in a new series of records, which will include subsequent releases titled "Pause, "Rewind", "Fast-Forward", and "Stop". Sheeran's inspiration for this concept stems from a long-held plan to release a ten-part album series, akin to Quentin Tarantino's ten-film trajectory.
The announcement marks Sheeran's reentry into the music scene following the 2023 release of his previous album, "Autumn Variations", which soared to No. 4 on the Billboard 200. While Sheeran hasn't released a full album since, he has remained in the spotlight with his ongoing Mathematics Tour, which is set to resume later this month in Qatar.
