AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande's deluxe edition of album, "Eternal Sunshine," has just been released and it offers fans a deep dive into her emotional journey, revealing intimate details about her failed marriage to Dalton Gomez and her burgeoning romance with "Wicked" co-star, Ethan Slater.
Grande, 31, appears to reflect on her two-year marriage with Gomez in several tracks on the album.
In the opening track, "Intro (End of the World) - Extended," she poignantly sings, hinting at her ex-husband's betrayal, "I broke your heart because you broke mine. So me, I am the bad guy, 'Cause I'd already grieved you. And you started to realize I don't need you."
Another track, "Twilight Zone," continues to delve into this theme, with Grande questioning, "Did I dream the whole thing? / Was I just a nightmare? / Different dimensions / Stuck in the twilight zone." She hints at deception from her ex, "Hope you win for Best Actor / 'Cause I had you completely wrong. Does she know you're not who you say who you are?"
The rumor mills had been relentless, accusing Grande of cheating on Gomez with Slater. However, Grande's lyrics in "Past Life" suggest that her marriage was already on the rocks before her relationship with Slater began.
She croons, "Always wondered what would happen if I let you lose me. Always wondered what would happen if I let myself need more. Might f*** around elevate my expectations. Now I'm fine to leave you in a past life."
The album's closer, "Hampstead," named after the North London area where Grande and Slater stayed while filming "Wicked," hints at her new chapter.
She unapologetically addresses critics with lines like, "Threw away my reputation, but saved us more heartache, Yes, I know it seems f**ked up and you're right, But quite frankly, you're still wrong about everything. So far off, your seat's nowhere near the table. I'd rather be seen and alive than dying by your point of view."
Grande and Gomez filed for divorce in September 2023, which was finalized in March 2024. During this period, she found solace and love with Slater, who himself had just ended his marriage from Lilly Jay with whom he shares a child.
