AceShowbiz - A month after Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their house, new bodycam footage emerged on internet. It revealed a phone call between a cop and the actor's daughter, Elizabeth, one day after the tragic discovery.
In the footage released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office and obtained by TMZ, Elizabeth asked New Mexico authorities to cremate and bury her father's dog, Zinna, with Betsy Arakawa.
"Yeah, I'm thinking cremate the dog and bury it with Betsy," Elizabeth can be heard telling a sheriff's deputy in the footage. In another emotional moment, she asked, "If the dog was wearing a collar could you save that for me?"
Zinna, a Kelpie mix, was found deceased in a crate near Arakawa's body. The dog's autopsy revealed it died of starvation and dehydration, likely exacerbated by the dry New Mexico air, and was partially mummified.
The bodies of 95-year-old Hackman and his 65-year-old wife were discovered in their Santa Fe home. Hackman succumbed to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with advanced Alzheimer's disease contributing to his death.
Arakawa, on the other hand, died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare rodent-transmitted virus, with both deaths deemed natural. The couple's two other dogs, Bear and Nikita, survived and have been adopted by Joey Padilla of Santa Fe Tails pet spa.
In another emotional segment of the bodycam footage, a groundskeeper, who had a close relationship with Hackman and Arakawa, was visibly shaken upon learning of their deaths. "They treat me really well. She was a sweetheart and to see them like that…," he said, choking up.
In a bid to protect the family's privacy, Hackman's estate have filed a motion to block the release of autopsy results, photos, and investigation details.
The couple had been living a reclusive life following his retirement from acting. They left their estates to each other in their wills.
