AceShowbiz - Madelyn Cline shared deeply personal reflections on her relationship and breakup with her "Outer Banks" co-star, Chase Stokes, offering a glimpse into the challenges of navigating a publicized love life.
During a revealing conversation on Jake Shane's "Therapuss" podcast, the actress opened up about how her whirlwind romance, and its subsequent end, affected her both personally and professionally.
"I think at the time I didn't realize what the repercussions [were] of inviting so many people into something, let's be honest, something that's intimate," Cline explained.
She admitted that, during their relationship from June 2020 until its end in November 2021, she struggled with the intense scrutiny it attracted, "I was just so in love. And, you know, people loved it. I think they loved it because of us, but they also loved John B and Sarah, first and foremost."
Despite their breakup shortly before the production of season three, they managed to maintain a level of professionalism on set. Cline reflected on this, noting, "At the end of the day, there's always been a safe space with the job. We've said from day one, our job is always to leave the show and the season better than when we left it last. And everybody is still very much a family."
However, the real challenge lay in dealing with the end of their relationship amid the public eye. "For sure there was a period of time there where I truly did not know which way was up, which way was down because that - Outer Banks and that public relationship, was kind of my identity," she confessed. "And I was like, 'Who the f*** am I?' I'm still figuring that out."
Years later, she admits she is still learning how to handle the chatter that comes with her career in the spotlight. "I don't think there really is an easy way to shut it out," she acknowledged.
"I think it's just ultimately a part of what we do. But I also think I'd rather make the decisions that feel correct to me and if people have opinions, they're totally entitled to those opinions. I think the best thing is just to keep my head down and just keep doing what I'm doing."
While she admits she's still figuring things out, her commitment to her craft and her ability to maintain professionalism in the face of adversity illustrate her strength and dedication.
Fans can continue to watch Cline and Stokes portray Sarah Cameron and John B on "Outer Banks", which remains a massive part of their lives even after their off-screen romance has ended.
