AceShowbiz - Grammy-winner Ed Sheeran thrilled fans in New Orleans with the debut of his new single during an unexpected street performance. Armed with a microphone, portable amp, and supported by The Soul Rebels brass band, Sheeran transformed a routine Saturday into a memorable musical experience.
The singer stepped out of a black SUV in the French Quarter around 11 a.m. local time on March 15. Clad in a tie-dyed tee and blue pants, he braved the gusty winds of Jackson Square to unveil his new track, "Azizam," for the first time, as reported by local news outlets.
"We're gonna do one song here - we're filming a bit of content - and then we're going to do a parade and walk down and play some songs, if you want to come with us," Sheeran announced to the seated crowd.
Joined by a few dozen fans and casual onlookers, the audience swelled as he continued the impromptu concert down Decatur Street and into Dumaine.
According to videos circulating on social media, Sheeran's performance included beloved hits like "I Don't Care" and "Don't." The Soul Rebels' brassy accompaniment added a unique touch to his new and old tracks alike.
"Playing some new music today on the streets of New Orleans with @thesoulrebels thanks to everyone who turned up!" Sheeran captioned a video of the event on Instagram.
The morning's highlight came when Sheeran spotted 11-year-old super-fan Grayton Hoffman, who was there with his mother and holding an acoustic guitar. Sheeran signed the guitar with a touching message, "Grayton, play this guitar!" and even took a picture with Grayton, creating an unforgettable memory for the young fan.
This is not the first time Ed Sheeran has treated fans to such spontaneous performances; he had previously staged pop-up shows in Nashville and attempted one in Bengaluru, India. These efforts are part of his promotional activities leading up to the release of his eighth studio album, "Play", later this year.
While Sheeran's musical endeavors continue to evolve, his ability to connect personally with fans remains unwavering. His surprise performance in New Orleans exemplifies his strong connection to his audience, creating unforgettable moments one pop-up show at a time.
