AceShowbiz - In a candid interview with InStyle for their March 2025 issue, Scarlett Johansson, 40, discussed the complexities of navigating fame while keeping her personal life private.
"The idea of being recognizable and celebrated feels fun, but then you can never stuff it back in the bottle," Johansson explained, emphasizing the "massive loss" that often accompanies fame.
Johansson's commitment to preserving her children's anonymity is unwavering. She has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, with ex Romain Dauriac, and a 3-year-old son, Cosmo, with her husband, Colin Jost.
"The anonymity of my children is very precious to me," she stated, explaining her decision to keep them out of the public eye for as long as possible. "I think preserving that for as long as possible until it's someone's choice, that's the choice I make as far as my kids go."
The "Black Widow" star also highlighted her policy of not taking photos with fans outside of work events, a stance that has upset some. "It really offends a lot of people," she confessed.
"It doesn't mean I'm not appreciative, of course, that people are fans, or happy to see me. But I always say to people, 'I'm not working.' " She emphasized the importance of setting boundaries, asserting, "[And that means] I don't want to be identified as being in this time and place with you. I'm doing my own thing."
Saying no to social media has also been a significant part of Johansson's strategy to maintain a balanced life. Despite pressure from studios, including an email from Universal Pictures urging her to join Instagram to promote a new movie "Jurassic World: Rebirth", she remains steadfast.
However, she nearly caved in and turned to her therapist to ask for a second opinion. "I was like, 'I guess this is something I need to do. But it goes against my core values," she recalled, ultimately deciding against it.
Johansson's reflections on her past relationships with high-profile actors and the resulting media frenzy further illustrate her cautious approach to fame. "When I was younger, I dated actors that had heartthrob status. That is, to me, scary," she admitted, candidly discussing the challenges of dating in the public eye.
Despite her reservations about sharing her personal life, Johansson remains an outspoken advocate on political issues and deeply values her close friendships and family.
"I definitely overshare. I'm not a closed book," she admitted. However, she continues to strive for a life where her privacy is respected, both for her and her loved ones. "If I could keep it that way, I'd be a happy lady," she concluded.
