AceShowbiz - Keanu Reeves and "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin are joining forces once again for the Netflix adaptation of the best-selling graphic novel, "BRZRKR". The project, which is based on a story co-created by Reeves, follows an immortal warrior's relentless 80,000-year battle through the ages.
Reeves isn't just starring in the film; he's also producing it, underscoring his deep commitment to bringing this epic saga to life.
Reeves' character, referred to only as "B," is a half-mortal, half-god figure cursed with an insatiable thirst for violence, even at the cost of his sanity. This monumental struggle has seen B wander the earth for millennia.
However, the possibility of a reprieve comes when he begins working for the U.S. government, tackling battles far too dangerous for mortal soldiers. In return, B is promised the one thing he seeks above all - an explanation for his endless blood-soaked existence and a way to end it.
Keanu Reeves has previously come to Lin's aid, backing his indie drama "Last Days", which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. "It was so inspirational," Lin said in an interview, describing how Reeves' support helped salvage the project during a critical phase when financing was in jeopardy.
The screenplay for "BRZRKR" has been crafted by Mattson Tomlin, known for co-writing "The Batman Part II".
The 12-issue limited series "BRZRKR" was illustrated by Marvel artist Ron Garney, with colors by Bill Crabtree, letters by Clem Robins, and character designs by Rafael Grampá. The comic has enjoyed enormous success, with the first issue selling over 600,000 copies and the series as a whole exceeding 3.5 million copies worldwide.
Beyond the live-action film, the "BRZRKR" franchise is expanding to include an anime spinoff penned by Tomlin, a New York Times best-selling novel titled "The Book of Elsewhere" co-written by Reeves and China Miéville, and an array of merchandise being developed by IMG.
With Lin's adeptness at navigating both Hollywood blockbusters and indie films, combined with Reeves' enduring star power, the Netflix adaptation of "BRZRKR" promises to be a thrilling addition to both their careers and an unmissable event for fans of the graphic novel.
