Following her breakout role in 'Wicked,' Oscar-nominated superstar Cynthia Erivo continues her ascent in Hollywood with a role in 'Karoshi,' an action thriller with a Samurai twist.

AceShowbiz - Hot on heels of her critically-acclaimed performance in Jon M. Chu's "Wicked", Cynthia Erivo is adding another exciting role to her repertoire. Already turning heads with her performance as Elphaba in the Oscar-winning musical, Erivo has now joined the cast of Lionsgate's "Karoshi".
Directed by Takashi Doscher, the project is an action-packed corporate thriller with a unique samurai twist. Produced by 87Eleven Entertainment's Chad Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz, the film is expected to kick off production in June.
Erivo will star alongside Teo Yoo of "Past Lives" fame and Isabel May, known for her role in "1883." The plot details remain shrouded in mystery, but the film is against the backdrop of a Japanese-influenced New York City.
The term "karoshi" itself refers to sudden death caused by overwork, hinting at the high-stakes drama.
Erivo's schedule is packed with a series of diverse and high-profile endeavors. With the second film "Wicked: For Good" set to release on November 21 this year, Erivo's star continues to rise. She has been nominated for a Best Actress at the Oscars for her performance and recently wowed audiences with a powerful opening number at the ceremony alongside co-star Ariana Grande.
Beyond "Karoshi" and "Wicked," Erivo is set to appear in several upcoming projects. She will portray Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl's production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" from August 1-3. She will also be appearing in Season 2 of Peacock's "Poker Face" as a set of sextuplets and has recently released a new single, "Replay," the first off her forthcoming album.
Erivo is also involved in the film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's "Children of Blood and Bone," where she will play Admiral Kaea, sharing the screen with the likes of Thus Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba. Additionally, she will host the 2025 Tony Awards, underscoring her multifaceted talent and versatility in the entertainment industry.
