AceShowbiz - Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine have exciting news for "Legally Blonde" aficionados. Lexi Minetree, known for her roles in "The Murdaugh Murders" and "Law & Order: SVU," is set to lead the "Legally Blonde" prequel series, stepping into the iconic role of Elle Woods.
Reese Witherspoon, who originally brought Elle Woods to life in the 2001 film and its 2003 sequel, joyfully shared the casting announcement on social media.
"Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree," Witherspoon posted on Instagram.
The series, aptly titled "Elle," will delve into Elle Woods' high school years, exploring the formative experiences that transformed her into the charming and determined character beloved by fans.
The project, led by creator Laura Kittrell and executive producer Caroline Dries, promises to capture Elle's distinct personality and ingenuity.
Witherspoon's enthusiasm for the project was evident during her appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," where she revealed that the new show was inspired by the success of "Wednesday" series from the "Addams Family"
"I thought it was amazing. I was like, 'We should do Elle Woods in high school!' " she explained. This sparked her drive to bring the idea to fruition, culminating in the creation of "Elle."
Minetree's emotional reaction was captured in the announcement video. Dressed in Elle's signature pink, she looked nervous as she sat down with Witherspoon before bursting into tears when she's confirmed to have secured the part.
"We had to make a really hard decision the other day and we wanted to tell you in person because you just worked really hard," Witherspoon, "You don't have to audition anymore because you got the part. You're Elle Woods!" Minetree's elation was palpable, leading to an emotional call to her mom and heartfelt embraces.
Minetree shared her gratitude on Instagram, echoing Witherspoon's excitement. "Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to @reesewitherspoon for handing me down Elle Woods. I already love her so so much, I promise she's in good hands," she wrote.
