AceShowbiz - Olivia Davis, who used to date Chicago Bulls player Torrey Craig before he moved on with Megan Thee Stallion, found herself at the center of a social media storm during a podcast interview discussing the NBA star and his new relationship.
Olivia seemingly poked fun at Torrey's current girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion by mispronouncing the femcee's name, prompting an immediate and fierce backlash. Olivia was accused of racism, and now she is speaking out to clarify her intentions and affirm her respect for the rapper.
Addressing the backlash, she told TMZ in Los Angeles, "I've never been called a racist in my entire life. So, it's just like a little bit of a shock to me. I've just been staying silent right now, just because of the disaster that's been happening. I just feel it's a little insensitive for people to be attacking. I obviously understand if they're offended and I deeply apologize for that."
Davis further attempted to clarify her remarks, labeling the mispronunciation as an "honest mistake." She said, "I know her name, obviously. It was just a stupid dumb blonde moment in the moment during our podcast."
"And I actually do have an issue with pronouncing vowels sometimes. And I'm not gonna play the victim or use this as an excuse because I am foreign. I didn't even speak English when I came here," she added, emphasizing that she was a fan of Megan's music and harbored no ill will towards the rapper.
The controversy stemmed from an episode of the "3 Girls 1 Kitchen" podcast when Olivia's co-hosts, Alexa Adams and Lana Rhoades, brought up rumors of Torrey dating Megan. "Do I start with the one where my ex is dating the Magan Thee Stallion? Mag Thee Stallion? What's her name?," Olivia quipped. "I can't even get mad, though 'cause it's like, damn, that's kind of a flex. I can't even be mad at that all."
Adding fuel to the fire, Lana suggested that Megan didn't fit Torrey's usual preferences as they talked about his type. She said Torrey dated women who "all look like you guys," referring to the two blonde co-hosts. Olivia concurred, stating, "Yeah, they all looked very similar," but later backtracked, explaining she believed men were simply drawn to "pretty girls."
