AceShowbiz - Beyonce Knowles has pledged $2.5 million donation to the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund, which aims to assist those who have lost their homes and possessions in the infernos. The fund will also provide support to churches and community centers that are addressing the immediate needs of the displaced residents.
The fires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, have destroyed thousands of structures, including homes, businesses, and vehicles. The death toll has risen to 24 as of Sunday, with search efforts ongoing.
BeyGOOD is joining a growing list of organizations and individuals who have contributed to the relief efforts. Walt Disney Company has pledged $15 million while Paramount and Fox Corp. have each donated $1 million to the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department. Warner Music and Blavatnik Foundation have also announced an initial $1 million commitment.
Live Nation is planning a FireAid benefit concert in Inglewood, CA on January 30 while the Grammy Awards, scheduled for Los Angeles on February 2, will likely include a focus on fundraising for the city's recovery.
BeyGOOD was established in 2013 and focuses on economic equity by supporting marginalized and under-resourced programs. Beyoncé has a history of donating through the foundation, including $6 million for mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic and $500,000 to aid people at risk of losing their homes during the pandemic.
Other celebrities who have contributed to the LA fire relief efforts include Paris Hilton, who launched an emergency fund through her nonprofit 11:11 Media Impact, and Miranda Lambert, who helped raise $200,000 for animal victims. Jamie Lee Curtis has also pledged $1 million for relief efforts, while large companies such as Disney and Paramount have also made significant donations.
The wildfires have caused widespread destruction and displacement, but the outpouring of support from Beyoncé and other organizations highlights the community's resilience and determination to rebuild.
