In an exclusive interview with Collider, Yen confirmed that discussions are underway for him to direct the new Caine film, "It is true." He added with caution, "I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen, and we'll see. I don't know. I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We'll see what happens."

Yen's inclination towards directing is not unprecedented. He has already shown his skills behind the camera with films like "Legend of the Wolf" and his recent directorial effort, "The Prosecutor."

The latter, a gripping thriller inspired by an actual legal case in Hong Kong, demonstrates Yen's ability to handle complex narratives and action sequences. Yen sees "The Prosecutor" as a testament to his directorial potential. "I do feel that The Prosecutor is giving me a fair chance of showing what type of director I am and the potential of me being a director," he remarked.

The idea of Yen directing a John Wick spin-off is not just a fan's dream. "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski reportedly supports this move and encouraged Yen's involvement. However, Yen does not take this responsibility lightly.

"I hold responsibility as well as a pressure that I don't want to ruin the franchise," he said. "I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don't want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always."

For those unfamiliar, Caine's character arc in "John Wick: Chapter 4" saw him evolve from an antagonist to an ally, making him one of the most compelling figures in the series. A post-credits scene hinted at more to come, featuring Caine and Akira, a vengeful killer played by Rina Sawayama.
