AceShowbiz - Professional tennis superstar Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae have called it quits, ending a relationship that began in 2019. The 27-year-old athlete publicly shared the news via an Instagram Story, confirming the rumors that had been circulating.
"Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship. No bad blood at all, he's a great person and an awesome dad," Osaka wrote. She added, "Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together â¤ï¸."
The couple welcomed their daughter Shai in July 2023, and while their breakup comes as a surprise, fans had seen some potential signs. Just three months after Shai's birth, Osaka posted introspective messages on social media, hinting at underlying issues.
"I just want someone that will watch the sunset with me," she expressed. She also liked a post that emphasized the importance of valuing oneself. Pictures of Cordae started disappearing from her social media accounts, raising questions among observant followers.
A day before the announcement, Osaka shared a cryptic Instagram message reflecting on life's journey. "I've come to the conclusion that what's meant for me is meant for me and maybe certain situations occur to train my mind for what's to come," she wrote.
"Maybe there's bigger and better things on my path and I just have to continue the journey to encounter them," she added before ending on a hopeful note, suggesting that good things are ahead in her life.
Despite the split, both Osaka and Cordae have spoken positively about each other's co-parenting skills. In a December 2023 interview with InStyle, Osaka praised Cordae for their strong foundation. "I don't know if it's because he's just an easygoing guy, but I think we just respect each other's opinions," she shared. "And if we disagree on something, we talk it out. At the end of the day, we both want what's best for Shai."
The couple's journey from being spotted at a Clippers game in 2019 to welcoming a daughter in 2023 has been closely followed by fans. Though their romantic relationship has ended, their mutual respect and commitment to co-parenting Shai remain as strong as ever. Cordae has yet to publicly comment on the breakup, but the focus for both seems to be on providing a loving environment for their daughter.
